Invitation to Soul Sculpting for Lent

2022 Lenten Soul Sculpting March 2 -April 15

Heard of the Seven Deadly Sins?

These are seven tricksters that promise The Good Life, but in fact deliver just the opposite. The Seven Deadly Sins are seven life-sucking behaviors and attitudes that rob us of happiness, thriving, and deep connection with God.

The first person who identified this particular collection of problematic behaviors lived in the fourth century. He was a monk named Evagrius Ponticus.

Evagrius wasn’t always a monk. Before he became a monk he lived an interesting, complicated life in Constantinople. He had a promising career in the upper ranks of the church but his romantic interest in a married noblewoman resulted in a rapid exit from Constantinople. Evagrius made a radical life shift, became a monk, and eventually a leader of other monks. Evagrius developed The Seven Deadly Sins (he actually had a different arrangement as 8 sins) as a tool to help his fellow monks live The Good Life.

In the sixth century, Pope Gregory the Great rearranged  Evagrius’s  list and created the famed Seven Deadly Sins list.

For these upcoming seven weeks of Lent 2022 I am inviting you to a challenge.

Let’s take-on the Seven Deadly Sins by counteracting them with Seven Life-giving Virtues.

Our strategy: Each week we do a Soul Sculpting Project to cultivate one Life-giving Virtue that is targeted to counteract one of the deadly sins.

Our first Soul Sculpting Project will be posted on Friday,  March 4.

Hope you will join me!

Soul Sculpting Projects are designed to be quick, 3-5 minutes. When we  find a project that works well for us and stick with it – –   our tiny efforts, over time can create life-giving transformation.
