Multiple studies link gratitude and well-being. Research confirms that gratitude effectively increases happiness and reduces depression.

Sample Study:

Gratitude Study (Emmons and McCullough): Participants divided into three groups for journaling (daily or weekly).

Group 1: Journals about negative evens or hassles.

Group 2: Journals about the things for which they were grateful.

Group 3: Journals about neutral life events

Results: The gratitude group consistently evidenced higher well-being in comparison with the other two study groups.
